Herbalist’s Bio:
“I was born in Tibet, educated in India, graduating in Tibetan Medicine and Surgery (Menpa Kachupa) from Men-Tsee-Khang College (Tibetan Medical & Astro. Institute), Dharamsal, India, in 1998. Since 1999, I worked as senior researcher in Materia Medica Department of Men-Tsee-Khang. I had taught extensively on External Therapies, establishing the External Therapy Center at Men-Tsee-Khang in 2008; in 2009 I was appointed deputy director of the Materia Medica Department, and Supervisor of Men-Tsee-Khang Wellness Centers.
I had the opportunity to study at and collaborated with the Institute of Pharmacognosy of the University of Vienna, Austria and have conducted research on the characterization and identification of various medicinal plants. In 2005, I also conducted research working on a collaborative project between Men-Tsee- Khang and Aravan Institute of Environmental Studies, Kibbutz Ketura, Israel, relating to endangered and red-list medicinal plant species.
I was awarded the Menrampa Degree (equivalent to a master’s degree in Tibetan medicine) with distinction in 2009. My first research book is titled “Compilation Research on Integration of Materia Medica of Tibetan Medicine, Ayurveda, Unani, and Siddha & Chinese Medicine” (2008).
Following on from that other books published by me include:
“Kunye –Tibetan Medicinal Massage” (2012)
“Cultivation and Conservation of Endangered Medicinal Plants” (2016)
“The Mild Therapy and its Practices” (2017)
“Clear Mirror of Tibetan Medicinal Plants, IV vol.” (2020)
“Fundamentals of Tibetan Medicine” (2023)
I have practiced for more than 25 years and done extensive research on both Tibetan medicine, and traditional medicinal plants, having written several books and with my expertise on Tibetan medicinal plants, I have engaged in extensive research on plants and Tibetan materia medica in their various aspects, supported by insights gained from numerous field trips throughout the Himalayas (border between Tibet and India) and North and South India.
In 2022 I was deputed to Namgyal Sowa-Rig pa College, Sikkim, India, assigned principal and Associate Professor of College. (2022-2023). I was frequently invited to attend international conferences, lectures, seminars and workshops both within India and abroad, involved in the translation of several books into English and has guided many students and doctors in their study of Tibetan medicine.
Traditional Tibet medicine is very much related to mind and body as one entity. Therefore, many mental and mental factor problems are associated with imbalance of rlung energy. During my many years of practice and research in Tibetan medicine in India, I have treated many patients with mental and emotional issues.
Through my book of work and vast experiences I believe I can contribute to learning about the efficacy and effectiveness of medicinal plants growing in Canada. The benefit of this knowledge will aid wellbeing, mental, and emotional health using herbs. I can recommend herbal supplements to respective clients; give health awareness talks to the Tibetan community and other communities as well. I believe my wide range of knowledge and skills will enable me to contribute immensely towards wellbeing, mental, and emotional health in many communities.
My vision as a professional member would be mainly to contribute with the practice, help clients in need, preserve our rich cultural heritage, share my knowledge and experience with fellow herbalists and learn from them.”
