Constituents
Volatile oils up to 5% monoterpenes – camphor, cineol, borneol, limonene,
linalool up to 38% [antiseptic, fungicide], linalyl acetate up to 55%.
Triterpene – ursolic acid. Phytosterols. Flavonoids – luteolin
Hydroxycoumarin – herniarin, umbelliferone. Tannin up to 12%. Perilyl
alcohol [antineoplastic and blocks cell division and fragmenting cells so
that they can be devoured by immune cells].
Primary pharmacological action: Antispasmodic

Fragrant. Astringent. Disinfectant. Tonic. Antibacterial – MRSA, Staphylococcus.
Diffusive stimulant
Carminative. Antiflatus, Cholagogue, Choleretic,
Anticonvulsant, Anodyne, Sedative, Antidepressant,
Rubefacient, Dermatological agent, Antirheumatic,
Antineoplastic, Addiction – benzodiazepine drugs.
Medicinal indications
Palpitations.
Loose teeth, Anorexia, Halitosis, Nausea, Motion sickness, Dyspepsia
Vomiting, Intestinal spasms, Flatulent colic, IBS.
Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, Restlessness, Fainting, Headache (Migraine)
Vertigo, Amnesia, Neuralgia, Paralysis, Weakness of the limbs, Smooth muscle
relaxant.
Muscle strain, Burns, Bruises, Cuts, Episiotomy.
Tissue conditions
Perilyl alcohol has shown promise in the treatment of cancer of the breast,
intestine, ovary, pancreas, and prostate.
Diffusively stimulating and antispasmodic to the peripheral nerves – calms
GABA, a neurotransmitter. Allays headaches, fainting, tension, panic, and
neuroses generally. Depression and anxiety that may be associated with an
irritable bowel. Intestinal conditions producing pain and discomfort, gas
with bloating and spasm. Culpeper gives uses for diseases of the head,
stomach, liver, and uterus.
Preparations
As an adjunct to other remedies.
Anxiety, tension, irritability with Rosmarinus.
External use
Loose teeth – mouthwash.
Paralysis – apply the diluted oleum for rubefacient action.
Anxiety, depression, headache, tension – inhalation for antispasmodic
effects.
Burns – apply dilute oleum.
Balneum general or foot – diluted oleum 5gtt
Eases tension and allays rheumatic pain.
Disinfectant – use the spray.
Dosage and mode of application
Dried flos/fol Sig 2g
Tincturae Sig 10ml
Liquidum extractum Sig 4ml
Balneum Sig 100g closed infusium, cool, and then add to water
Oleum Sig 4gtt on a sugar cube [approximately 4gtt =3D 80mg]
Spray Aqua Lavandula. Lavender spray
Ethyl alcohol 25 % Oleum Lavandula 20gtt shake then add aqua to 100ml
